STEPPING STONE URBAN PARKS
Fall 2007
Eugene, Oregon
Team Members: Ana McKernan, Jackie Kingen, Chris Barlow
BRIEF:
Composed as a series of diverse open spaces, the ‘stepping stones’ of this project define and give character to a variety of overlapping districts in Eugene, Oregon. These districts then frame a journey between the downtown and the Willamette River. It utilizes existing places such as the Federal Court House and the existing power station as well as the river edge to create civic forums, congregating places for the city to rally around. Special attention was also given to how the built form frames the open spaces and connective corridors. In the end these places provide: accessibility and a sense of openness for the civic monuments; support for both human and non-human activity; and arenas for public discourse, something Eugene prides itself in.
