BRIEF:
Needing to redefine itself after the departure of the Northwest Aluminum Company, this project strives to maintain a memory of the past by inverting the old facility to create something new. Through the adaptive reuse of selective elements it leaves traces of the past while revitalizing and rebranding the area at the forefront of industrial technology.
In addition, a new water purification process and site vegetation strategy highlight the concerns of redeveloping a brownfield site. This new flow of water as well as extensive phytoremediation strategies are used to educate and exemplify The Dalles, Oregon as a center for innovative, light and ‘green’ industrial development. Thus bringing desired economic growth to the area as well as reestablishing The Dalles identify as a thriving end cap to the Columbia River Gorge Experience.
