BRIEF:
Defined by the confluence of the McKenzie and Willamette Rivers, this project strove to couple human and ecological health. It addresses issues of population growth and the evolving, shifting character of a riparian zone by focusing on a strategy to densify not only the residential populations but also their supporting activities. This move then provides and supports a network of open spaces throughout the urban fabric of the city, making the dense living conditions desirable while also supporting the ecological functions. At the confluence special emphasis was given to the placement of new Sand & Gravel mining operations as well as the rehabilitation of the old mining sites. All along, individual consideration was given to how people in Eugene would experience the rivers that define their environment.
